Timelash is great. Yeah, the story itself is a bit dull and it's dreadfully cheap, but Gunsar is in it! And Paul Darrow is overacting his heart out, bless 'im. I've always had a soft spot for Timelash.

Anyhoo, this week I ar mostly bin watching the documentaries on the DVDs. Sunday was Ghostlight (I bought that and Fenric in the Sendit.com sale - I'll have to buy the McCoys eventually, completist that I am, and I'd rather not spend too much doing it) and last night was the turn of Genesis of the Daleks. And the Inside Bond docos on the Bond Ultimate Edition DVDs as I bought a few of those at the weekend in the sales.

I actually did it! I finished it!

Hooray!!

I want to see The Web of Fear, but can't seem to find it anywhere. Maybe it's not one that they brought out on DVD or even video. Anyone else know?

Is it me, or do they seem to be sticking to Earth most of the time these days?

I hadn’t realised that, but it’s true, there’s been a definite shift to the earth. Only about half of the First Doctor stories were on earth (and later Doctor's even fewer) :

An Unearthly Child
Marco Polo
The Aztecs
The Reign of Terror
The Dalek Invasion of Earth
The Romans
The Crusade
The Time Meddler
The Myth Makers
The Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve
The Gunfighters
The War Machines
The Smugglers

It’s more difficult to create alien worlds but they were very ingenious back then as in ‘The Web Planet’. Maybe the Production team today, much as I admire what they’ve done, are afraid of something not seeming real if they don’t have the money for big realistic alien sets like they splashed out in ‘The End Of The World’. R.T. Davies said, after spending so much money on it, soemthing like "If you don't like that one, we've no chance".

It’ll be interesting to see what the next series is like and if they attempt more fantasy.

Had a sudden urge to watch The Chase! For all it's silliness - has SF ever been as camp as this? - it's still great fun. All this 'stern grandfather' stuff that Hatnell gets labelled with is rather wide of the mark. IMO one of his greatest strengths was very good comic timing.

Have an idea for a Mechanoid short story festering at the back of my head.
