Oooh this is a Doctor Who spin-off I believe, or as Captain Mainwaring might say "You're getting into the realms of fantasy now!"

So much to like - Pat and the Brig being wonderful, Hurndall's lovable alternative first Doctor, the Raston, the music, the Cybermen looking sexy as hell, clips from Shada...

As with Blakes 7 I particularly like Doctor Who outdoor scenes (like The Power Of Kroll' -the marshes) and I like the bit when they are travelling to and entering the castle thing in 'The Five Doctors'.

The Sarah Jane Comic Relief special. Crushingly disappointing that when this otherwise excellent series gets its biggest exposure, it's the first time that SJ-A has ever talked down to it's audience.

Attack of the Cybermen

A flawed but entertaining story with some great body horror and strong peformances. The Cryons - like the Menoptera - are an example of an alien race with a very bad costume design but effective vocal and physical mannerisms. It's just a shame they couldn't have been the genderless, farie like creatures that the dialogue seems to suggest, as this would have made them a better contrast to the physicallity of the Cybermen. David Banks might not be head Cyberman in this one, but his Leader is stil more compelling than Killgariff's portly Controller. I do miss Mark Hardy as the Cyberluitenant as the movements of his replacement are all wrong.

Even though he's (sort of, if you squint a bit and bear in mind this is a Saward script) a good guy, Lytton is still bloody scary. Maurice Colbourne's peformance is chillingly cold and yet also charming. Paul Darrow used to claim that B7 was more adult than Doctor Who becuase of the imorallity of Avon - but quite honestly, Lytton is more frightening in his two stories than Avon was across 51 episodes.

The DVD has an absolutely excellent selection of extras, the highlight of which is Professor Warwick's assertions that Cybermen are not just a possibility but an inevitability. It's also funny to see Ian Pants-On-Fire- Levine's claims to have written the script debunked.

I watched 'The Invasion of Time' for the first time.

There is a great surprise, with a feeling that it was superbly built up when it happens, and it's one of the best moments ever in Doctor Who.

Invasion of Time is one of Tom's best IMO. I love the way the Doctor's uses clowning to cover his intentions. And I really like Storr, it sort of makes sense that a Sontaran would act like one of the Mitchell brothers from East Enders.

My old VHS of DAY OF THE DALEKS - a bit pre Terminator in places but good entertainment and typical Pertwee era!
