I thought The Undisovered Country was the worst.. although I still like some of it... Final Frontier was tongue-in-cheek and then towards the end had some good scenes.... but Undiscovered Country, I think they tried to make a serious Trek film when they'd gone beyond the point of being all that interested in even self-parody... |

The motion picture, followed by Nemesis.
The Motion picture has a small excuse of being the first one and old,
but Nemesis was inexcusable, the only interesting thing during the whole film
was what people were wearing, and that wasn't fab or funny enough to
warrant the torture of sitting through the whole film. _________________ from Bseven xx |

I quite like the Motion Picture, although I think the director's edition is that one that makes more sense... Some key character scenes are cut out of the theatrical version, as I found out when I bought the DVD recently
I don't mind the looooooooooooong fly-over sequence, coz I like the V-ger design, seeming like it really could be a "living machine", and looking quite alien and demonic in places... And the music is rather ominous which all adds to the atmosphere... Plus it does serve the purpose of setting up the belief that V-ger is really REALLY huge and the Enterprise is just a gnat in comparison. |

But they did the plot already (most of it) in the series. This film in some circles (so I've been told coz I don't move in those circles...my sister has done) is known as "Star Trek - where Nomad has gone before"
Admittedly they didn't have the scantility clad......no, we've been there before _________________

Hmm, well admittedly the fly-over sequence could have been a lot shorter with Nomad
I've heard the "where Nomad has gone before" gag before, courtesy of KevinD, who has, you guessed it, built a model Nomad
(description of the build starting here - http://www.blakes-7.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=327505#327505
and video here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrVyYD6Siz8 )
I still like ST The Motion Picture tho
I remember going to see it at the cinema (in 1979?) as part of a kid's birthday party outing, and even back then I knew who the characters were and I recognised them as they appeared one by one in the film, so I have fond memories of it Back then the effects were a lot more impressive too, especially seen on the big screen |

Wah that's different then! Childhood memories and all that. You could have the most dire film in the universe (which STTMP isn't, dire come much further down the chain) but if it invokes great childhood memories it counteracts the direness _________________

If Final Frontier is the one that starts bizarrely with Kirk rock climbing then that's the one that gets my worst vote.
I love 'the one with the whale' as its called in our house and The Undiscovered Country which I discovered for the first time six moths or so ago. Its poignant and rewards the viewers who have grown up with the characters.
I also liked the reboot. |

I think the original cast Trek movies took what had been an adult science fiction drama, and turned it into a series of pointless cast reunions, written and acted at a teenage or child's level. So now we have a generation or two raised on those films, thinking they epitomize Trek, who want more and more like that, with a sort of permanent overgrown teenager mindset.
I voted for Voyage Home to smite it... no ideas, painfully unfunny jokes. |
