Now that's what I call an episode of Blake's 7. Great story! The introduction of Servalan and Travis in one episode is certainly a landmark moment. The plot is excellent (ignoring the dodgy robot! ), even though it is surprising how long it takes the Liberator crew to realise that Cally had not come aboard.
Travis is magnificent, his single-minded obsession and sadism apparent from the first moment we see him. Servalan is a little understated at first but we do see an indication of her ruthless character, particularly when she manipulates her "old friend" to find out information.
We get more of the conflict between Blake and Avon, Blake trying to rescue Cally, Avon wanting to leave her to her fate.
The whole thing is wonderfully self-contained and a marvellous introduction to what the series will become. It's taken a little too long but this is when Blake's 7 really started. |

Great episode but as Davecabs and Vere Lorminer say: the robot's rubbish! _________________ "No matter where you are... everyone is always connected." Lain Iwakura |

That's because that, SECURITY ROBOT was RUBBISH to put it politely - IF it had performed as, they'd initially intended then might have been a different matter.
Said SECURITY ROBOT was on display along with other, B7 exhibits/costumes and, other BBC tv shows exhibits, too in an exhibition in, Blackpool in the mid 1980's and, it looked even worse at very, close quarters!!! _________________ "Valentine" ( 'S Brother)

Looking at the episode it would have been better to just cut the robot out altogether and have Federation troops guarding the base. The robot was hardly used and its appearance is so laughable it was hardly worth having it in. |

Well it was quite a good idea, I think it could have realy made more of an impact if the design was better. I.e. it had a big gun which spurts out flames. That have been inhansed by a realy good design. _________________ "No matter where you are... everyone is always connected." Lain Iwakura |

It was a GOOD idea - the problem was the BBC didn't or, wouldn't put enough, MONEY into making better props/effects, etc. just tried to make an SF series on, a Cop series budget and, sadly it showed at times, didn't it!!! _________________ "Valentine" ( 'S Brother)

Would it have been any diff if the Independent TV COMPANIES had made it instead ? . A nice poser ... |

ITV always put a lot more money into their sci-fi shows, just compare the effects between the first season of Space:1999 or UFO and Blake's 7. The model work in the Gerry Anderson stuff was great, just goes to show that it was just technology problems. |

At the least ITV would have provided some better quality flares , look at the ones in Space 1999 - a lot better made than B7`S flares ! . |

You would have got a lot of Martin Landau/Barbara Bain misty-eyed looks between Blake and Jenna.
Jenna: "Oh Blake don't go down to that horrible planet."
Blake: "Don't worry, Jenna, just need to go and get the antidote, you stay here and put the kettle on. Back in a jiffy. |
