Avalon was more interested in defeating the Federation where Avon just wanted to be safe.
If she were able to convince him that both aims were basically the same, she may have had a chance. |
A very slim chance!!! _________________ "Valentine" ( 'S Brother)

Good! I need some shots of Glynis as the mutoid - the one shot I've been using is too small.
As for Avon and Vila not being into the rebellion, well, that's pretty easy to explain. Both are thieves, although at differing ends of the spectrum (as Vila point out in an episode of my PGP "You were a white collar thief defrauding a bank whereas I was getting my hands dirty cracking safes!"), and both would be classed as criminals under any government.
Gan's a murderer (a liberal government would say it was manslaughter with diminished responsibility, Gan having killed a man who'd killed his wife/partner/whatever stupid politically correct term you want to use) who stayed with Blake because he needed people around him.
Jenna, well, the stupid woman's in love with a bloke who's already married to his crusade, so she'll follow him to the edge of the galaxy and back if it will get her noticed.
Avon following Avalon? He might, but it would probably end up with her getting killed. By him. _________________ "Now then, Butch Harry, tell us about Fulham..." |

Grrrr! The one shot I want isn't there!
Something else. Mutoids are supposed to be devoid of emotion, yet Mutoid Glynis is clearly enjoying kicking the crap out of that bloke before calling in the rest of her zombie friends. She certainly shows some fear and hesitancy when telling Travis Blake is in the lab later on.
I have to confess that this is my favourite episode of the season. Yeah, there's some unanswered questions, but I like episodes that do that and it explains why I like The Prisoner. It makes one think more if you aren't given all the answers on a plate. If I wanted that, I'd be a Trekkie. _________________ "Now then, Butch Harry, tell us about Fulham..." |

"Well now," we all need to watch things that don't tax the braincells too much, occassionally, don't we???
Even, B7 episodes like - THE WEB, HARVEST OF KAIROS, STARDRIVE and, ANIMALS!!! _________________ "Valentine" ( 'S Brother)

Three of those I will never watch again. See if you can find the odd one out!
There's too much non thinking TV now and most of it is dumbed down crap to keep the proles content and quiescent whilst Teflon Tony, Nu-Labour and the EU quietly steer us into an Orwellian nightmare. _________________ "Now then, Butch Harry, tell us about Fulham..." |

One of my favourite episodes because it sums up so much of what the show is about. You have information about the resistance movement, you have the main two bad guys - Servalan and Travis - you see the range of Federation technology from the clunky guard robot to the modern Avalon robot, you see how ruthless the Federation is with the massacre, you see mutoids. It is, I believe, the perfect episode for introducing someone to Blake's 7. |
Well it's certainally a good episode to show new viewers what Blake and the crew are up against,a taste of what the Federataion can do when they flex their muscles. This episode really had alot going for it;Travis,Servalan, planet with a hostile environment, rebels, betrayal,a robot,a Federation complex, mutoids, evil doctor,a captured leader, bio weapon, android, and lots of other stuff.Yet for all that it still didn't make it into my top five.I dunno,it just didn't thrill me.Maybe because the biting dialogue between the crew was lacking. It was a good Travis episode though,he seemed at his most ruthless.
What I liked:
Travis; He was great.Evil, cunning, yet focused and in complete control.Loved the dialogue between him and Servalan, especially after they test their weapon on the prisoner:
SERVALAN It'll be clear now.Satisfied?
TRAVIS Completely. (Loved the expression on his face!)
Gan getting manhandled by a woman.
The Subterrons's weapons projectile rifles,I thought that was a nice touch, something different.
The thermal suits also,something different.
What I didn't like:
Avon he seemed much too obedient, all he needed was a some pointy ears and a Starfleet uniform.
Avalon not as nearly impressive as Kasabi.
The ending you gotta be kidding me.They just hand Avalon over to Blake, just like that?
The running aboard the Liberator I might be knit picking, but I thought it looked silly.
Undecided on:
The special effects Taking the low budget into consideration I thought the effects were pretty good.I especially liked how the bio weapon's phial looked. The only thing that ruined it was when they were looking inside the android Avalon's head. That looked really bad.I didn't like how the security robot looked at first but after thinking about it,that was exactly the type needed for that kind of planet.Something simple yet rugged, probably an early model similar to the prototypes used in Terminator 3. |
