The light boxes are in place and the lights flash in the appropriate manner.

Mind you, these are easy compared to the lights that will have to respond to his voice

Hmmm ... Could you cannibalise the level-meter LED display part of an old tape deck and feed Nomad's audio through it, with extra LEDs wired up to it? Or get a circuit diagram for one and make something from that?

Thanks, he's getting there. I have picked up a sound to light kit , the only question is if it will drive enough lights to give the right effect.

Ah, a sound to light kit? I didn't know there was such a thing... If it just uses LED's, could you add a few extra ones? They hardly use any current, so I gather...? Or could you use some reflectors or beam diffuser bicycle lamp lens type things to make a few lights look like more?

The sound system is underway. I plan to give him two systems, on the right is a sound recorder chip with 4 phrases taken from the episode. These can be selected by a rotary switch. To the left is an amplifier connected to this chip. I intend to also connect an mp3 player to the amp. This will play a selection of phrases on a random setting (mixed with periods of silence), so that he could be left on in a kind of 'exhibition mode'. That's the plan anyway

Wow, cool! That didn't take long to get together!

I love the mp3 player idea ... You mean make tracks with a phrase and periods of silence on each one, then put them into a directory and leave it on "shuffle"? Great stuff...

Yep, that's what I've done with K9, seems to work really well, one mp3 player battery will easily do a whole day of exhibiting

I've started the voice lights, but there is some way to go yet. Awful lot of wires here, I'd be dangerous if I knew what I was doing

Just for good measure, I've begun the lid for the main section. The small slot is for a volume control, the hole is for the phrase selector and the grille for the speaker. None of these are accurate, but will be necessary on my prop.

Wow, haven't been here in a while and look at that!

Fantastic job Kevin, NOMAD MkII is looking absolutely stunning.

Not that the first one wasn't stunning as well.

You really have got back into the swing of this prop building malarkey haven't you!

Cheers,

Andy

Oh, and as for these two......

Gorgeous, the Shado Mobile must have been a right pain but it looks the absolute K9 spheroids!

Brilliant stuff,

Andy

Most of my models stay put, except K9 and my Shado Mobile, they both move but only when told (I hope )

Progress at last Nomad's electrics are now all complete. The little circuit next to the speaker is the sound to light unit which makes the top bank of lights flash in time with his words. In the other corner, the tube houses the MP3 player that will randomly play lines of his dialogue from the episode, or you can select one of four phrases from a recording chip and play them at the press of a button in his base.

I have also added detail to the lid and fitted it with a hinge so that I can get in to set up the MP3 player. He's gonna need a head
