Going on missions.
It is not Avon who first sees Vila as disposable, but Orac. Once it is pointed out Avon must chose between his responsibility and self-interest, not to mention any affection for Vila. His baser instincts come out, and Avon chooses self-interest, as Vila knew he would.

The scary thing is, If Vila was in Avon's shoes, he would probably have done the same thing. Both have a unique ability for self preservation. |

It's one of the things that makes the show unique. It's a team of sorts, but it's also not. Independant contractors as opposed to most other Sci Fi where they have a captain or leader. Space 1999, TOS, Battlestar Gallactica etc all have that structure. 7 doesn't. |

The difference is that Vila might have had to think about it first! _________________ Everything in life is only for now. |

There's another thread about the episode "Orbit" here.
In fact, can I suggest we continue the discussion on that thread, coz it's the main thread for the episode and it's nice to keep it all together. |
