Hmmm. I haven't watched The Ambassadors of Death this year so perhaps it's time to dust down the bootleg DVD? _________________ "Now then, Butch Harry, tell us about Fulham..." |

Hope everyone enjoyed their choice of Who story for tonight, even if the sad news of Verity Lambert's death has cast an inevitable shadow over this particullar anniversary. Funnily enough, I was only thinking a few days ago what a shame it is that JNT never got see Time Crash and David Tennant's tribute to the first Doctor he cast.
Anyway, onto happier matters and I really enjoyed Survival. It had to be a Sylvester story for this year's anniversary. The 7th Doctor's adventures are not just my favourite part of the classic series, they were also responsible for making me what to tell stories of my own. For that I will always love those three seasons. David Tennant's stories might have surpassed them, but the 7th Doctor's time will always be my home. _________________ Everything in life is only for now. |

Saw State of Decay on the 'big screen' at Bradford Media Museum yesterday. Bloody fantastic story, with a cracking peformance from Tom.
It's a very stylized, sometimes OTT production, but IMO it all adds up to create a wonderful, baroque fairy tale adventure. Like Warrior's Gate this adventure appears to enjoy a strong influence from black and white films, especially the Universal Pictures horror movies . The Three Who Rule certainly wouldn't look out of place agonside Lugosi or Karloff. Personally, I much prefer the Universal films to the Hammer stuff, so I'm glad that for its first real venture into the world of vampires, Doctor Who went down that route. Especially as State of Decay triggered my childhood fascination with vampires _________________ Everything in life is only for now. |

Just saw it! I found out that the aircraft had been in use about six years when this story was aired. So it must have seemed very topical then, but also manages a huge amount of fantasy, and a real laugh how accommodating the authorities are - just like in one of the Department S episodes 'One of our aircraft is empty'. |

Currently working my way through Destiny of the Daleks.
I don't give a stuff 'bout what fandom says, blah, blah, as it's my favourite Dalek story. The only thing that marrs it is that I know I'll have to watch Resurrection next. Marvellous. _________________ "Now then, Butch Harry, tell us about Fulham..." |

Funnily enough, I was watching that story too last night. Just brilliant IMO. I'd forgotten that it was written by Terry Nation, with Douglas Adams as script editor. The bit where the Dr reads "How the Universe began" by Oolan Caluphid while he's trapped under a boulder (another Hitch Hikers metaphor!). |

Destiny is a great story and it's the first one I ever saw!
Anyway, Janov - skip Ressurection and head straight for Revelation! _________________ Everything in life is only for now. |

Finished Destiny earlier and it's still a cracking little story, despite it's flaws.
Would that Resurrection was a bit less grim. One episode in and already I want to slash my wrists. It's oh so desperately serious and grim. I like stuff serious and that but this is going too far. It needs some humour in it, that dreadful Playschool woman is appallingly bad and Rodney "Bob Ferris" Bewes is woefully miscast. Still, Maurice Colbourne is acting the lot off-screen. Superb actor whatever he's in, even Howard's Way.
At least Saward learned something from Robert Holmes when he was writing Revelation, because that seems like it's written by a different persomn entirely.
Soon as I've got this drivel out the way, I'll lighten the mood somewhat with 1984 - the good one, the 1954 BBC version by Nigel Kneale and Rudolph Cartier with Peter Cushing. Or perhaps Sapphire & Steel instead. _________________ "Now then, Butch Harry, tell us about Fulham..." |

I watched Timelash and thought it was quite good.
Watched 'Survival' last night and I felt like Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect being subjected to Vogon poetry in the 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' (awful). _________________ Last Watched: Seek, Locate and Destroy 30th Sep 2020 |
