From the classic era, it's Sylvester McCoy. I love the idea of the Doctor as a dark clown, a puckish character who's buffonnery hides terrible knowledge. There's a wonderful warmth to the 7th Doctor - his relationship with Ace is the most obvious example, and he's more at ease with characters like the Kangs and Earl Sigma than any of the previous incarnatuions would have been -but a certain sadness too. A Doctor that can play the spoons and destroy planets, listen to the blues and play chess with evil from the dawns of time. Works for me!

Second comes Pat, a hair's breadth ahead of Tom in third place. Paul McGann comes in 4th.

Finally saw Tenth Planet the other day, great stuff except for those annoying early Cybermen voices.
