The psychological effect of this final betrayal by Servie might have been what sends Travis completely mad. As I noted above, he is not really concerned about finding Star One in this episode. Soon, however, he is intent on wiping out humanity! |

I think as the Travis stories unfolded in the 2nd series, they showed him gradually going more and more loopy.
I'll have to rewatch the Keeper at some point to see how he acts, but at the end of Gambit, he does look as though he'd gone over the edge. Especially after being betrayed by those he was loyal to for so long. The look on his face when Dochalli found that bomb said it all really.
I never really thought about Travis not wanting to know the location of Star One at that point. I assume then, that he was using Dochalli as bait to capture Blake. _________________ Louise and Simon's Blakes7 Fan Site

Yes, the impression I had was that he was simply using Docholli as bait. Perhaps he also has a soft spot for doctors as well. Remember the sympathy he felt for the one who healed his wounds, who was subsequently killed by Servie in Deliverance?
Regarding Travis' deteriorating mental state, it is a true shame that Stephen Greif did not portray the character is Series 2. I twould have been fascinating to see the development of the characte without the disruption of another actor coming onboard, regardless of the skills of the second actor. I was reading a review of Weapon elsewhere on the internet where someone notes that Travis' lack of restraint when kiling the Blake clone in Weapon was due ot his growing obsession. Unfortunately, as this was the first appearance of Travis II, it seemed much more disruptive than was intended. |

The other feeling I had when first watching it was that perhaps Travis was trying to make amends by being bodyguard to Dochalli. Righting the wrongs that he'd done before by doing this one good thing.
I have to agree, it would have been interesting to see how Travis's downhill would have been played by a single actor rather than a second. _________________ Louise and Simon's Blakes7 Fan Site

That is a good observation. It is hard to know whether Travis, the convicted war criminal and fugitive pawn, is craving redemption, self-delusional or simply sarcastic when he states "I'm a hero, too." A gloriously ambiguous line. |

I think one of the reasons is, the scenes with and, and, because it's by, "ROBERT HOLMES".
I AGREE it is a very CAMP episode but, it is still fun and, as for being out of character, have we been watching different versions of this episode "BC"??
is very much in character as, it was his suggestion for going down to Space City to cheat the Casino - his favourite occupation was always trying to get WEALTH/MONEY!!! _________________ "Valentine" ( 'S Brother)

One of the classic episodes, I love this one.
Avon and Vila planning their heist.
Servalan is so over the top and with a red dress is just awesome.
Avon's reaction when he hears Vila will play chess with the Klute.
Avon and Vila trying to look innocent at the end when Blake returns.
Its just delicious. |

It doesn't get much better than that.
It is a pity there wasn't more episodes by Holmes.
Orbit was great, but the ending was very dark.
