Hi everyone, i've just finished ORAC again, and i thought what an amazing story it was, although it makes me sick at the end when that annoying actor has to replace Steve Grief, making it difficult and uncomfortable for the viewer and the cameraman, the 'phibians looked a little basic but worked well and i think Orac and Ensor in their home made funny viewing, certainly an improvement on the previous: DELIVERANCE which was naff. in fact the best part of it was the line from avon when he is arguing with vila:
: walk! I can barely move (or something like that i can't remember)
: THEN CRAWL BUT PUT THAT ON!
what are your thoughts on the story? |

Orac was a good episode, with some nice little touches.
Ensor s base on Aristo with his fish and potplants.'
Travis and Servalan underground in the tunnels,
Orac's force shield around the base, ( a good idea which could have been used later on Xenon).
I have to watch it again. |

Not too mention after teleporting then, puts his foot in a puddle!!!
AGREE it has some very funny dialogue in places:
"Perhaps would like that thing as a pet?"
When, he refers to the surveillance robot that directed him and, to the entrance to, "ENSOR'S" underground base.
Plus, after shooting
"Good shot, "
"I was aiming for his head!" _________________ "Valentine" ( 'S Brother)

I liked the build-up to what Orac could possibly be from the previous episode. It's such a surprise to the crew when they finally meet him. And of course the cliffhanger is fantastic! |

I've just watched Orac again too,and really enjoyed it. Yeah,it's a shame
Stephen Greif didn't continue as Travis. Orac was a story that hooked you from start to finish, plenty of mystery and action, and it was brilliant cliffhanger. I'll have to wait 'til series 2 comes out on DVD,hopefully in
October,to watch it again fully for the first time since it originally aired.

I do like Orac's sarcastic humour, and I appreciate his desire to avoid any work that he can. This episode were we do not really know what they are going to find just sets the scene perfectly for Orac's first appearance in the show. |

Orac was an option in a question on the lottery show on Saturday night - 'In it to win it', I think it's called.
The question was:
Which computer beat Kasparov at chess in 1997
a) Deep Blue
b) Hal 9000
c) Orac
The contestant was a 17 year old student who guessed b)!
Yes, of course it did whilst singing 'Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do.' _________________ Regret is part of being alive - but make it a small part. |

Has some naff bits in parts (the sight of the PHIBIANS) but, AGREE that "ORAC" starts of sarcastically and, continues through the entire series in the same vain!!!
Really, love the dialogue during the scene on the, "LIBERATOR" flightdeck when they are trying to find out more about "ORAC'S" capabilities and, not getting quite what they expect.
has the best idea when, he throws "ORAC'S" activation key flying across the flightdeck _________________ "Valentine" ( 'S Brother)

Avon is just so frustrated dealing with a computer that he can not completely control. To be an expert with computers and then have to deal with Orac a computer that has whims. |

I Think Avon Is The Only One Who Can Understand Orac, Thus He Also Knows He Can't Make Orac Say Anything He Doesn't Want to, Unlike The Others Like Blake Who Are Trying... So Avon Keeps Laughing When Blake Asks Stuff & Orac Gives Him Replies He Doesn't Want/Understand.
The Throwing of The Key, Avon Was Hyper By This Time, Very Rare When We Get Hyper We'd Do Crazy Things to Show Off... Maybe Avon Was Just Showing Off |

Avon is sometimes amused by Orac too though. Maybe it's because he genuinely thinks of Orac as a computer so doesn't take the 'attitude' personally. |

Too right. Blake and the others treat Orac as a human, and it drives them up the wall. Orac may be intellingent but it isn't human, and Avon doesn't expect it to be |
