Well we didn't expect that this criminal would be released,
but i think, the sanctions are a little steep, but who knows maybe they'll change their mind ..

But it doesn't change what he did,i wonder if the British had lost some lives
on that horrible day would they'have still release him? That's my question,
or is it better to forgive & forget?

There were British lives lost on the ground due to falling debris etc but personally I think the decision to release him was wrong! if he was ill then why could`nt he have been released to an Hospice etc in Britain?

All I see is political point scoring in Scotland, with the opposition using the situation to further their own agenda. & From the U.S the insane revenge culture bred from learning nothing from 9/11.

Any disagreement with the U.S hurts the relationship, remember the cheese eating surrender monkeys? These people are adults??

This isn't even on most peoples 'radar' in The US. We're too busy starting a near shooting war over health care. However, referring to the insane culture of hate and death still applies.

Couldn't agree more. Do as we say, or else! Dangerous precedents are being set.

Perhaps it was cheaper to pack him off home than to give him medical treatment as a prisoner.

Easy for people to judge when they didn't lose family

From what little i understand of the case the only evidence against this man was flimsy. (based on one persons ID of a photo) and tainted
(As he'd seen the photo ina related artical.

The case in face should have been thrown OUT efore in got to court due to lack of eveidence.

If these people who'd losed relatives had one of their OWN imprisoned abroad on such a shaky legal basis I bet they would be shouting and screeming at their senitors for their release.
He was ony imprisoned because they couldn't find anybody else. his imprisonment was political and not justified from the start and secretly everybody knows this but darn't admit it.

Why should opinions based on emotional investment be more highly regarded?

Well pointed out, Doc. Emotional investment can work both ways!!

I think we can say quite literally that they 'greased' the wheels of justice in this instance.

It would seem that it has hurt the relationship, but then someof us would see that as no bad thing.

It seems that terrorism only counts when Americans are on the receiving end. What about the families of the 200+ killed when the US Navy shot down an Iranian air liner? I can't remember hearing that the pilots were ever brought to justice forthis crime. Or the US pilot who brought down that cable car in Italy?

The US is angry with the Scots for releasing a man who was convicted on flimsy evidence yet they arrogantly hold onto quite a few IRA terrorists wanted for extradition by the UK and have done for at least twenty years.
