These meet ups were started as forum meet ups by forum members.
Their wishes should be respected.

I agree, and as the poll shows the majority of forum members are happy with other people attending.

you left out my white flag committee

I think you should all behave tomorrow, and then come back and have
a decent poll while enough people are still keyed up and no one's fence
sitting. It's clear to me you've got at least a few people who said "not
bothered" that might rather vote for another option, such as having some
of each type of forum meeting throughout the year.

I'm off to the meet in a minute... but just a quick note....

I think part of the problem is that all the forum people going, apart from Steve and Richard, also go in the chat room together... up til now I sort of assumed the forum and the chat room were the same thing, and that therefore a forum meet meant a meet of the same bunch from the chat room...

But what's going on on these threads makes me think that they AREN'T the same thing, and that's why there's this misunderstanding between those of us who chat, and Steve and Rich who don't come in there.... and to be fair to them, it did say "Forum meet" and not "Chat room meet"...

Perhaps the "chatters" are assuming there is a clear consensus of opinion, or at least of general feeling, but it isn't clear to those folks who read the forum but not the chat....?

One thing that's upset me a bit tho is that when a couple of people have said they find it difficult to meet strangers.... talking about a kind of social anxiety I guess... they've just been met with an attitude of "tough, you're outvoted", or at least that's how it seems to me...

Then again, those complaining may not have been exactly tactful about how they complained....

And one last thing... As Roachy said, "not bothered" can be a vote for EITHER option....

arrrgh, I'm still here....

I think mostly what I've got from typing that lot is to realise the futility of discussing things like this on the internet sometimes, coz it's too easy for people to not really listen to each other.... hopefully we can all have a good scrap about it in the pub later and get it out of our systems

Cheersh!

It's so much more simple when you can square off with pointy sticks.

Hey, in America, that's practically pacifism!

No pointy sticks in Philly
baseball bats are the weapons of choice
or a kick in the 'goolies' and hasty retreat

The problem with Exeter is it's a long way for a lot of people. Bristol is more central - after all it's only about an hour from Exeter, there's at least two forum members live in Bristol, and then there's myself and Sharp Blue close by.

Bristol is not so far for people from the Midlands and London to travel to.
