Hi Guys

I think anyone should be allowed to turn up, but start it for members only earlier, and set a different time for non members.

SO, when we planned the first "BRUM" FORUM MEETING, HOW come we DIDN'T plan for NON-FORUM MEMBERS to attend it in the first place??

That first get-together was only supposed to be a one-off initially but, as it was so successful and, great fun - others have since followed.

Inviting extra folks from other FORUMS, etc - we'd need to take over the whole pub!!!

OR, have our own Function Room which in most pubs costs money to actual hire and, would add more expense to those attending IF we had to make a charge to each person coming to the event.

Valentine, you are acting as if we are going to be invaded by thousands. Be real, the most non-forum members who are likely to turn up will be in single figures, we'll be lucky to get five. I really can't see why you are making such a fuss.

"Steve" - NO, I'm not expecting an Invasion of thousands - We had 16 folks at our first meeting in, "BRUM" (same venue) and, had difficulty finding seats for those WHO turned up then.

SO, depending how many "regulars" from here turn up?? Including, folks from other Forums, etc, regardless of numbers causes a space problem let alone a problem to chat with everyone that we know - never mind don't know
!!!

Originally the meets were supposed to be a smallish gathering of members from here - inviting others generally means a shortage of space so many feel left out of procedings!

I've voted for "not bothered" coz I don't really mind if other folks are there... but I'm going mainly to catch up with people from the forum so I'm mostly going to be talking to them rather than any other folks who turn up... I guess I don't mind them being there if they don't mind me ignoring them

It's nice if new people appear, but if there's too many I think it gets too much to cope with... we're only there for a few hours and I can only cope with so many introductions and getting-to-know-you chats...

I agree with futs.....

I will be going to gatherings specially to put names/avitars to faces and chat
with members from this forum. Yes Smiley Yes Smiley ...I'm not overly shy or anything....but I sometimes get overwhelmed
when meeting big groups of people I dont know , So I would gravitate towards those (forum members) I already have
a common basis of familiarity with.

I have no objection to others on the whole and I would never ignore another
person unless they had caused affence to myself or those I care about. No Smiley No Smiley

But, in view of the limited time, I would worry, that I wouldn't get the opportunity to get to know forum members..
.who I prioritise over guests, Yes Smiley But niether would I want to
stand in the way of those who want to meet as many new people as poss...

If a forum member were to bring a friend or partner....they would be welcomed as agreeably as any member..
..but if a forum memeber were to bring ten friends..(and ten aquaintances THEY dont even know)...
.well that might be more faces and names than I counted on..... .

.............so on the whole dont mind a few extras.....just not so many that
I dont get to talk to forum members... for being introduced to hoards of guests. Crazy

Reads like I'm sitting on the fence a bit.... sorry, but I havent been to
enough of these gatherings to know what works..

see you all on Sat. Wave Wave

The two "SHEFFIELD" get-togethers were kinda, spoilt due to two groups rather than just one group of folks from this FORUM.

"SteveR" seemed to be more interested in chatting with others from outside our "FORUM" than he was with those from here who managed to make the events.

IF people from here or, anywhere else want to meet with as many "B7" Fans as possible then they can attend Conventions, or, events specifically catering for that to happen.

Like "Futsie" and, "Bseven" who don't want to ignore folks but, simply want to converse with and, enjoy the company of those they regularly post with on this FORUM!!!

It's unfair on folks from outside and, as time/space at a particular venue are major factors - having folks from other places just complicates and, upsets the order of things!!!

I don't really have an answer here, I can see both sides of the arguement and they are both valid.

My only problem about it all is that theres always been the issue that this is a public forum and posts can be viewed without the need of logging in, therefore people who don't actually post here could quite easily spread the news elsewhere and not announce it here.

So even if Steve didn't advertise, there could be people coming from other forums anyway.

I thought the Sheffield ones worked fine.

I don't have strong feelings eitherway on this one, though I must admit a big part of the appeal of the meet ups for me is having the chance to talk to people from the Forum face to face.
Mind you, I'll talk to anyone - whether they want me to or not!!!

I propose that none of us ever meet each other again, but instead go on leading solitary grumpy lives such we did before the internet. Who is with me???
