A completely redundant episode. Now would have been the time to have a good episode emphasising the serach for BLake and instead we have this...
The idea of an artificial black hole is awful and Orac's desire to explore it runs counter to his usual interest in placing his own survival above all other priorities (in which way he reflects the crew's own desire to live). The anti-computer ideology of the Thaarn is not well explored nor is the nature of mythology and the Thaarn's relationship to the increasingly compassionate Cally.
The "Wizard of Oz" references are seemingly pointless and the props and costumes are amongst the worst in the series.
The only aspect of this episode that I do like is the filming and lighting around Jan Chappel when she is alone and hunting the Thaarn. The cinematography in this scene captures her emotion wonderfully and Jan has never looked more beautiful.

I agree. Sometimes the ideas in an episode are interesting enough to make up for poor execution or there might be a particular aspect that brightens up a drab story - like Vila pretending to be drunk in Stardrive or the sheer badness of Travis disguise in Voices From The Past.

Even those godawful Radio 4 plays were made endurable by Paul Darrow's strong talent for audio peformance (though check out Big Finish's The Next Life to really hear him shine)

For me Dawn is redeemed by the fact that for a few disconcerting moments magic suddenly seems to work in the Blake universe and Jan's nicely understated peformance.

I quite like the idea of this episode, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. It would have been better if they had made everything look as mad and leftfield as the Caliph character.
I agree. It might have worked better if they entered some type of dimension where normal laws do not apply.Trying to make it into a serious story just made it look silly.

I think the most notable part of this episode was the beginning with the interaction between Avon and Tarrant.Specifically,Avon attempting to abandon the Liberator and Tarrant later stating he may have to kill him one day.It pretty much sets up the confrontation in Sarcophagus.

I like the idea of Tarrant and Avon being forced to do calculations by hand.
There is always something in a B7 episode to keep me interested.

"Well now," - Kinda gives a different meaning to the scene (in "ULTRAWORLD") and, proves they can still count without the aid of computers!!!

Avon "More like insanity. You really believe in taking risks, don't you?"

Tarrant "Calculated ones."

Avon "Calculated on what? Your fingers?"

doesn't it!!!

Wouldn't it be funny if after Tarrant implies to the Calliph that Orac is a bald dwarf, the Tharn appeared with a box of chocolates and some flowers and asked 'So where is this hot bit of totty then?'

Interesting that none of the Avon fans mention that when the going got tough,Avon tried to bail out like a scared little B****! Blake would never have done that.

ps
For everyone under 18,B**** = Bunny.

It certainly suggests that he has very little if any feeling for Cally that he has no problem with the idea of abandoning her. I think he was m,anipulating her affections in Season 3 just as Blake did with Jenna in season 2

I thought when they got out of the ship they'd landed in an episode of Robot Wars - that thing with the painted teeth chasing them
Expected some giant kid with a remote control to appear above them...

I also spotted the Robot Wars reject in this, almost as odd as Groff's Western Banker look.

Sorry, inge. Not enough for me. The episode starts badly with the cringe-worthy dialogue about the board game. Then all the really poor "sciency" dialogue/exposition about black holes.
Followed by the "attack" by the thing with painted on teeth. And Avon says stupid stuff - that it was designed to frighten primitive people - yeah people primitive enough cross interstellar space, you dupe! One of his lowest moments.
And one giant switch in the middle of the room that turns everything off. Not even the worst Dr. Who is that unsubtle.
UGH!
With no connection to other episodes, I just pretend it doesn't exist.
The best bit is Vila discovering that there is gravity - played very well by Mr. Keating.
