I was watching this today while marking, gotta say the fight scenes are great, but the only thing was when Grant and Avon where defussing the bomb, that went a bit slow.

I always like Grant, to bad they couldn't have had him on board the liberator instead of Tarrant. Wrong Del there.

I enjoyed the bomb bit Had more insight about the
Character of Avon in that bombastic diatribe than all
of the other episodes. Avon other than Rumours of
Death

This is one of the better eps IMO, but I suppose the suspense of whether Avon and Grant will defuse the bomb, or whether they will try to kill each other afterwards is lost on repeated viewings...

I agree with Picard, the fight scenes at the beginning are really good
Not like yer typical B7 scenes were someone hits someone else by wiggling their bum at them

The fight scenes arn't the run of the mill b7 fights. When I first watched this one the diffusion scenes were styill a we bit boring.

The exchanges between Grant and Avon do have some great double entendres:

AVON: I need to hold this flap back. Get your hand in here. [Grant complies. He and Avon are standing chest to chest] That's good. You can get at the main now.

I thought the pace of those scenes was very good - however, it does seem that they are slow in comparasion to the amount of time that's passing to defuse the bomb. On first viewing you wonder what Anna was to Avon and how Grant came into it.

It probably seems daft now, but the first time I saw the episode it came as some surprise when this exchange happened:

GRANT Why did you help me?

AVON Perhaps because Anna was your sister

You can tell it's made in the 70's with the sexism of the early scene:

GRANT [Takes Ralli by the hand] And when you've done that, get this place cleaned up, get a casualty report, and get some Federation prisoners for questioning.

I expected him to ask her to make a cup of tea as well!

I like how Avon's voice softens for the first time when he was talking about what happened when Anna was captured. A little out of character that he would actually be willing to die in someone's place - shows that he really, really loved her.

Gas masks seem to be in this season for renegades, as seen in hostage.

Has there been any fan fiction about Del Grant set before or after this episode?

Avon's drill is a 1970s Black & Decker, my Dad still has a very similar model.
