I think The Web's probably one of the earlier episodes written by Tel. It's his later ones like Timesquad or Bounty that were written in a hurry and rather skimpy.

I think those ones are quite good. And I still liike this one.

Bounty is okay apart from the Turkish pirates, who look like they've just walked on the set by mistake whilst looking for the Fry's Turkish Delight advert they're starring in.

Timesquad on the othert hand is just boring.

So if timesquad is boring could you make a tiny place on your heart for Web?

So you have a scientist who is physically destroyed but who's mind retains it's genius. He creates a genetically enginered race who eventualy turn against him and apparently kill him. The hero of the piece refuses to kill the creatures even though we see them commiting acts of murder.

Is The Web as close as Terry Nation ever got to a straight re-write of Genesis of the Daleks?

I can see how its similar now you've said but Genesis never had a little bloke in a jar, which is one of the reasons i really dont like this episode

The bie where Cally clobbers Vila is amusing, the later bit with Blake turned up in of Sounds Of The 70s as a link.

For fans of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory this episode features Deep Roy from the recent version & at least one actor who was an Umpa Lumpa in the 1971 version.

Watched this one again for the first time in ages. One of my favourite series one episodes, very wierd and atmospheric. The fey clones are great.

The ending is extremely bleak, even by B7 standards. The Decimas are freed from opression but in destroying the labarotory they turn their back on civilization and become savage killers. This seems very much in line with the pessimism of Nation's scripts Terminal, Death to the Daleks and his significantly titled short story We Are The Daleks.
'Change is inevitable' seems in this case to be more a statement of fear than hope.

Bit harsh don't you think? All we see are the Decimas overthrowing their supposed superiors. Such conflicts are never pretty. What the Decimas did next, I suppose, is anybody's guess.

They don't destroy the clones though, they also appear to destroy every piece of equipment in the laboratory. To me that suggests they will become as savage as the Links.

Blake saw them crying when one was killed tho... so maybe they're a bit more compassionate than the Links....?
