Thanks Inge, it was a good story but differently not for screamish people.

Interesting story - certainly gives pause for thought.

It did occur to me at the time of watching Ultraworld originally what would happen if they'd got the minds the wrong way round - I never thought of that scenario though!

At the beginning, Zen tells them that the planet has no electro-magnetic spectrum, yet when they put it on the view screen they can see it. How?

Well I enjoyed "Ultraworld"!

The premise was a bit similar to "Redemption", where the ship was captured and Orac saved the day by confusing the "master brain".

Still, I thought the Ultra were well realised and there were some genuinely impressive models shots.

Just watched this episode,it's been years since I saw it on television. It actually isn't so bad once you pretend that the Redemption episode ever existed.Rather than analyze it completely,I'll tell what I liked about it.

The Crew:It appears that they settled their issues in Sarcophagus.Tarrant
appears to accept Avon as leader while Avon seems more inclined to take the views of his team-mates into consideration. In fact, they all seem to be listening to each other and more respectful.

The Dialogue:Except for Call they all have some decent lines and contribute the story.

Dayna's Gadgets:Great! Took me by surprise at first.Wish they showed this side of her more often. She and Soolin would have made a good team.

The Idea:Although not presented well, the general idea of a giant brain absorbing a person's consciousness (Borg style) then eating their body seems quite scary.

Avon and Cally:I might be in the minority but I'm glad they didn't switch their minds.I've seen it done in scifi and I always thought it was silly.

Vila and Orac:Similar to when the Enterprise crew attempts to teach Data jokes.

Having recently re-watched this more than once since getting S3 DVD's (it's growing on me - slowly ) I'd not seen it since it originally aired, either, and, I found it amusing to see and, paired up for a change!!!

Glad, like you that Tarrant didn't get things wrong when reversing the process of putting the right crewmember's minds into the right bodies (despite the fun of what Avon might have thought had that happened!!!)

I have a little more time now so I'll add what I didn't like:

Cally getting possessed:I realize she had a rough time going through Children of Auron and Sarcophagus, but come on,enough is enough.Couldn't the writers come up with a better reason to get them in Ultraworld?

The Ultras:Although not as bland as the Altas, they really serve no logical purpose in a mechanical planet except to further the plot.

The Plot:They have millions of species absorbed, apparently some humanoid, and they need to see the human bonding ceremony?

The Ending:Didn't really seem too plausible that a "brain" capable of assimilating millions would have trouble with a few illogical thoughts.Might have made more sense if Orac somehow utilized Zen's defense systems from Space Fall also.

ULTRA CR*P more like -this episode is abysmal - that brain draining scene with Avon is hilarious - as bad as `Spocks Brain` in ST !

How I think it could have been improved:

1)Find some other way to get them to Ultraworld besides possessing Cally.

2)Instead of making Ultraworld artificial make it organic.Let it eat beings in order to grow.

3)Get rid of the Ultras, let the brain do the communicating.

4)Let Cally either telepathically attack the brain or help augment Avon's struggle to stay awake. It would be nice to have the entire crew battling the brain on several fronts.

5)A little less running down corridors.

6)Let Zen's defenses from Space Fall come into play.
