Just had a thought. If Blakes7 was made today, with the same opening storyline about a guy whos accused of being a child molestor being sent to a prison planet, would you still be interested in watching it.

It occurs to me that its the sort of opening storyline that a lot of TV stations wouldn't risk nowadays due to the content.

I watch very little TV these days, but I'd give anything a go that sounded different enough. Trouble is, there's very little genuinely new stuff out there right now.

I'd give any new British sci-fi show a go, there's so little of it made nowadays.

I think it would be doubtful whether a network would go for it, but I'd watch it if it did.

I remember that episode of Andromeda that might never have got made if it had been post 11 September. It was shown in the UK the day before the twin towers got hit, but I'd taped it and didn't get round to watching it till the day after. It involved suicide pilots who crashed their ships into enemy ships deliberately, and Tyr makes a comment about suicide pilots being brave and honourable.

I don't think it would make major networks, but it could happen on a cable network.

Obvoiusly that one episode of Lone Gunmen wouldn't have made it post 9/11 either...

I mean't that if the show was totally brand new, and it hadn't already been made in the 70's.

I have a feeling that if I saw the synopsis in the newspaper, I may have been slightly put off by the main character being accused of that crime.

I would give a new series a go remember in B7 we already knew Blake had been brainwashed before he was accused of being a child molester.

I suppose that if all I had seen were the commercials for the programme, I would give it a chance. If I were to only spot it from a television listing in the newspaper, I suppose it would depend upon what they wrote about the story.

I doubt whether TV stations would advertise the "child molester"aspect of Blakes imprisionment, as there is so much publicity about child abuse. More likely to catch peoples atention these days, would be "rebellion against the evil empire" type of synposis.

If B7 had came out in todays kinda world!, once the vast majority of the viewing public had been 'told' what had been accused of! then the Federation would have easily achieved their aim!! The other 'followers' would have been quilty-by-association! It would have lasted 13 episodes only! - if that!!! Propaganda is still in full use even todate!

Although Raiker refers to Blake's crime as "molesting", the court in the first ep calls it "attempting to corrupt minors" (along with assault or something as well tho)...

But "corrupting" could mean Blake was being accused of attempting to "brainwash" kids with his political ideas. Rather ironic to be accused of that by the Federation.

initial responce was far greater than that of just ' brainwashing' kids - he was accused of ' corrupting'!!!
