There were some great scenes between Avon and Vila in this episode, before their confrontation.
I wrote my own version as well, because I didn't like the way that Avon caved in to Orac so quickly.
Avon, the genius, should ahev been able to think of an alternative, to killing Vila.

Well I've always consirdered his surrival instict to be finely honed and if he was ever in trouble then he would do anything to surrive. I love the scene in the shuttle when Avon is hunting Villa, I wish the crying scene hadn't been cut. It was really great and sad, but also like a cliff hanger would avon really kill villa?

This sounds like Warlord - if you substitute fed guards for Betafarlians

Haven't seen it since 81 - I'm looking forward to seeing it tommorow

This episode is so dull ,very boring ! . Egrorian and his collegue just irritate me ,they`re so camp ! . And the scene where Avon tries to push that bit of star out of the airlock - just ludicrous ! . At this stage Servalan had just got so ridiculous , hamming it up like Joan Collins in Dynasty ! .

I just watched this episode again.I haven't seen it since its original broadcast.Everyone seems out of character and the acting doesn't seem as crisp as usual. The plot doesn't really seem believable and the Tachyon Funnel idea just had too many plotholes. It doesn't seem as if the writers took this episode seriously until the end(which the whole story is built around).

Egorian may have been a scientist but he was so obviously deranged, Avon should have known he was in danger.
The tachyon funnel blowing up a moon light years away was pretty poor.
Otherwise, I enjoyed the interaction between Avon and Vila before the second shuttle trip, it was similar to their scenes together in Gambit.
That's why it was so shocking on first viewing to have Avon stalking Vila.
Orac was supposed to be the most intelligent computer in the galaxy, surely it could have solved the problem of excess weight on the shuttle without resorting to violence.

Actually Orac's answer was the only answer - its logical, and it was in keeping with its own selfish sense of self-preservation which has been seen before.

And if Orac has a flaw its that it gives too much information, or not enough ...

... But seldom just the information that is requested

I don't know what type of sensors Orac has,but if he knows that Vila weighs 73kilos,shouldn't he have known how much the plastic weighed?

The ending is wonderful and it shows Micahel Keating was a much greater actor than many gave him credit for.

The only really grating flaw for me is with regard tot he Tachyon Funnle being on the shuttle. Egrorian calculated it would survive the shuttle crash but surely he realised it would be one of the things dropped overboard whilst Avon was trying to lessen the ship's weight.

True, also Egorian thought he had the real Orac when it was actually on board the shutlle.
I wonder how much Orac weighs?

I guess Orac can only use the sensors of other computers, like Zen.It just seems like sometimes he has some awareness of his surroundings so I thought he had his own sensors.

Just watched this episode again yesterday and wondered why Avon and Vila didn't take some teleport bracelets with them into the shuttle just in case of a trap.Avon sneaked a gun aboard why not some bracelets?

At the first sign of trouble in the shuttle the pair could of just teleported out with orac.

Was the Scorpio equipped with a traction beam? It could of been used to pull the shuttle out of trouble.

It sounds logical, but as Dayna said, they could not teleport between two fast moving objects or they would slip out of the beam.
Avon knew Egorian would double cross him, he should have been better prepared.

True enough - but didn't Avon do just that in Gold!! - teleported between to fast moving objects!! granted - they were both still close enough to clean each others windows!

In Gold both ships were presumably travelling at the same speed as they were transporting the gold between them.
In Orbit, both ships would have been accelerating pretty quickly.
So I'm assumming that's what Dayna meant.
