Eeek, double Tarrant. I liked the tribute to Star Trek - "Space, the final frontier as it used to be called". I actually like the whole episode, but it was a challenge for Stephen Pacey, which he failed. He was definitely the worse actor of the regulars and this episode showed it up dramtically, or not if you pardon the expression.

As to the characters of the two Tarrants, take Deeta first. Here is a guy with top class instincts as a fighter. He knew there was something suspicious about Vinnie, he knew he'd already beaten a professional. So why wasn't he suspicious when Vinnie called for a fast draw contest? Surely it must have been obvious that that was his chief skill.

Also, given that Del now knew this when he went up against him and knew that he was a machine, why didn't he shoot him in the back rather than risking an outdraw when Vinnie turned round?

Loved the scene with Avon and Servalan - the minor violation. And it was one of the few episodes that we see them eating and drinking. Dayna's scene with Servalan was good too and the simultaneous request for teleport at the end was funny.

Best line was Vila suggesting Orac would look good as an empty space.

I like DEATH WATCH but it could have been better.

If you compare it to something like Vengeance on Varos it doesn't come close.

More Gladiator style would have really brought this episode up to a better quality.

Also, there just wasn't enough connection between Tarrant and his brother to really make you care.

A poor execution I fear!

I agree with you there! And the place were Deeta and the android fought was rubbish! They should have got to woods or a country side location as these are the places in my opinion have the best battle sences. And Tarrant couldn't shoot the android in the back because it isn't honrable. To shoot someone in the back is dishonrable! The person needs to see who killed them. So you're the one they see when they die!

I thought I'd revive this thread!

There's a moment in Death-watch that has been bugging me of late:
When Deeta is discussing Vinni with his assistant, Max, Deeta (or Max, I cant remember exactly) mentions that Vinni killed Rakkov in a challenge (great name that, Rakkov, pity we never got to meet him). The assistant, Max, says to Deeta re-assuringly "You're better than Rakkov".

How does he know this? Surely it is impossible for Max to compare the two fighters as they would never have fought each other or the same fighters ever before. On what grounds is Max basing his statement?
Or is Max just being kind to Deeta cos he knows Deeta is a little worried?

I think Max was just boosting Deeta's ego.

I read that as Rakkov being fairly well known, in which case his abilities would be well known.

I thought the location for the gunfight worked pretty well. Thought the scene was especially atmospheric when Deeta was falling to the ground against the backdrop of the roof remains - great image.

Loved the scene with Avon and Servalan. "After all, it wasn't a major violation"

Oh, and...

"How's your friend?"
"Sick as ever"

brilliant!!

On reltion I must admit that was a good location for the duel, and a very good story.

For me I'm glad the fight did not take place in the country side or a forest as it would've reminded one a bit too much of Duel.

I like the episode - the only drawback for me is the television presenter arguing with his producer. Nice idea and good device to explain more details of what is going on, but the scene drags on way longer than it needs to. And when it finishes with the dodgy flying cameras .... AARGH!

Tarrant shouldn't have cared about shooting an android in the back but perhaps it simply highlights that he has similar pride and honour like his brother. He knew it was an android but the millions of people watching didn't. Just as Deeta had to accept the challenge - he might have won easily by shooting Vinni when he had the chance but everyone watching would've seen him take the easy way out.

WHAT KILLED DEETA TARRANT?

Contrary to popular opinion, it wasn't Vinni or even Servalan

Deeta was dead the instant he uttered the line: "Have the drinks set up, Max. We'll celebrate, ay". The 'ay' on the end is the real clincher. As soon as he said that, you knew he was doomed.

I think what killed deeta is that they probably still didnt have the tv technology to have the same actor on the screen twice without it looking really awful!!
Do like it when Avon and Servalan get dirty ha ha!!
