I used to think this was the better of the two radio episodes, but it is such a dull story, I now feel it is the worse. It doesn't hold up to repeated listening as much as the Sevenfold Crown. It also is very annoying the way they keep referring to "the Feds". I also think that Angela Bruce should at least have learnt how to pronounce "Orac" when she took the role of Dayna.

We learn that Anna wasn't the only woman in Avon's past. There was definitely something going on between him and Madam Gaskia - "I knew her well, I knew her very well." And she betrayed him too. It seems he is not very good at picking trustworthy women to have relationships with.

Tarrant show how stupid he can be by forgetting his teleport bracelet. And Soolin was worse freeing Tarrant when he was under Servalan's control. And Servalan seriously loses it when Tarrant is knocked out and she doesn't know why she's lost control. Though she does get to shag Vledka.

Good quotes:

Tarrant: "Vila's no fool."

Tarrant: "You know what my old nanny used to say - fine words butter no parsnips."

Tarrant: "Remarkable what you can do with one hand."

Agreed, this did seem the better radio play to begin with, but i find THE SEVENFOLD CROWN a lot easier to listen to a second time. Despite its character flaws it is the more interesting play, THE SYNDETON EXPERIMENT is just depressing.

Speaking of Radio plays, when are we likely (if ever) to get the new ones we were promised

This is definitely the worst of the two audio stories. Heard it once and, that was enough.

Whilst, Sevenfold Crown has it,s faults - it has matured nicely and, more enjoyable now, than it was, originally, on first listening to it.

THE WORST ? . It`s more than that , it`a an absolute disgrace to the name BLAKES 7 , a complete pile of cr*p that should never have been made ! . All the characters were completely wrong , especially Madam Gaskia ! . I`m just grateful that no more of these travesties were ever done! .

Of the two I have only listened to 3/4 of Crown - still haven't got around to playing the final side of tape 2.

Wasn't very impressed - it just didn't sound like a B7 story - too silly.

If Crown was worse I can only say its just as well they didn't make more of these.

What did you expect from the "BBC" more MONEY?? They didn't, exactly, give the tv version enough money to do the series justice, in the first place, did they!!!

Technically, this is the 'final' Blake 7 episode as it was the most recent broadcast by the BBC.

My god, that's a depressing thought!

Unless Avon survived the final shoot out but Servalan was up to her old tricks and arranged for him to have halluconogenic adventures involving Crowns and silly robots while she got on with killing people.

Thankfully, I've not heard either of the two radio stories but thanks to the reviews, I don't have to! They sound like some really bad fanfic.

I don't see a problem in Avon knowing women before Anna - if Avon was the same age as Paul Darrow was when playing the character as debuted in Spacefall, he'd be about 36. His relationship with Anna couldn't have been any longer than a year so who else did he see before Anna? Or did he just stay in and fiddle with his computer?

No, hold that last thought!

It does leave a lot of room for fanfic writers.

I just read the story at http://www.farsight.net.nz/plays with the advantage of being able to imagine the original Soolin and Dayna talking. The story isn’t as exciting as The Sevenfold Crown but there’s no mistaking all the characters. A good bit is when Dayna says to Vila “Life isn’t fair, you’ll find that out when you grow up”. I hope Villa like me is still only thinking about it.

It would be nice to make another one for the (not too distant) 30th anniversary!

i've got 'the sevenfold crown' and i've heard it a few times and its quite pleasant as a tape to listen to while you're in bed... but nothing tremendously riveting

Yeah, I know what you mean. Its good if you just want to listen to something to chill out to and don't want to think about too much. The sound quality is a bit poor too, especially compared to the new Hitch Hiker radio series.

Tomb of the Cybermen sounds better on audio - you can use your imagination to conjure up big Cyber Tombs more than the visuals -I have both!
