Tarrant had every reason to believe that Blake was about to sell them out, so did Avon.

Especially given that throughout season 4, virtually every character they meet is just out for themselves.

We're all sellouts solely due to the fact that we live in industrialized democracies where even the poorest citizen lives better than 90-95% of the rest of the world.

Blake. It was all his fault. Avon and the others acted perfectly logically given all the 'evidence' Blake provided that he had indeed sold them all out and even seemed to be admitting it.

I think his fall was an inevitable result of a long list of wrong things he did from the very first episode. Blake showed them all repeatedly that he would betray them all just for a chance to get back at the Federation. He showed that other people's lives meant very little to him if he could cause enough trouble to the Federation. He said himself that to him, winning was everything. And he showed that he could commit any immoral act because he thought his cause justified everything he did.

Blake brought his own death on himself because of his inability to think and his constant lack of morality when it came to getting what he wanted.

Avon.

All the things he tried to do in the 4th season, i.e. find a home base, form an anti-Federation alliance, etc, he should have done in the 3rd season, when the Federation was at its weakest.

Instead, the crew of the Liberator, which we were repeatedly told was at that stage easily the most powerful warship left in the Galaxy, spent their time wandering around - stopping off to investigate any bit of space flotsam that they thought might be interesting, popping back to Earth to kill a Federation interrogator, wtching Tarrant's brother fight a duel, etc, etc...

Season 3 is when Avon blew it, through not having a coherent strategy.

Hmmm, interesting point! Yes Smiley

But then by the same token, where was Blake during all that time? By the end of season 4, Blake seemed to have got something organised, but what was he up to before then...?

In answer to your question, Futsie, it's been over ten years since I last saw the Gauda Prime episode, so I may have forgotten some comments that Blake made regarding his activities since leaving the Liberator. I do remember, however, that he looked incredibly beaten-up. I would imagine that he spent his time being a fugitive and just trying to stay alive. Even this would have been a struggle, given that he was the most wanted man in the Galaxy and no longer had the resources of the Liberator and its crew to help him.

I would assume that many of the outlaws and ne'er-do-wells with whom he was forced to associate would have been unable to resist the temptation to betray him to the authorities in the hope of collecting the considerable price on his head, which would have led him to try and test the loyalty of everybody he met.

If he had indeed started to put together a new group (and we have only his word for it - there was no evidence of any such group on Gauda Prime) it was so small and ineffective that he needn't have bothered. Look how quickly Avon et al, and then the Federation troops, got to him in that last episode.

It's interesting that both times Avon decided to go looking for Blake, it ended in disaster. Another example of his poor decision-making and lack of a proper strategy.
